The latest study by the CIES Football Observatory highlights the clubs that have developed the highest number of players fielded this season in the “Big 5” leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France). With 40 players coming through La Masia, FC Barcelona once again confirms its status as a global benchmark in youth development. They are followed by their rivals Real Madrid (35 players) and the most recent UEFA Champions League winners, Paris Saint-Germain (31). French youth development stands out in particular, with Stade Rennais ranking 4th (29 players), ahead of Ajax Amsterdam, the highest-ranked club outside the Big 5 leagues. The top 10 is completed by Chelsea, Real Sociedad, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, while Olympique Lyonnais sits just behind but continues to demonstrate remarkable consistency over time. Over the past five and ten years, OL has consistently ranked among the top four training clubs, behind Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG. Outside Europe, Argentina’s River Plate remains the leading reference, ahead of Brazil’s Flamengo and Senegal’s Génération Foot (partners of FC Metz), underlining the global importance of well-structured youth academies.
