Lukas Kwasniok, coach of FC Cologne since June, proposes revolutionising the rules of football to make it more entertaining / ©Icon Sport

After four seasons at the helm of SC Paderborn, Lukas Kwasniok took over as coach of FC Cologne in June. The former midfielder spoke on the German media outlet Bild's podcast about the upcoming season with his newly promoted Bundesliga team. He also took the opportunity to suggest some necessary (r)evolutions for more spectacular football. "The players are bigger, faster, and more athletic, but the playing field and the rules have remained the same for over 130 years," the German coach asserted. According to him, it has become too easy for underdog teams to defend their lead. "Many upsets these days occur mainly because a team can "destroy" a game defensively and win it on a stroke of luck. Playing 10 against 10 or with bigger goals would prevent this and guarantee more goals". The debate is open.
