A classico in terms of club academies! The CIES Football Observatory has just released a study on the teams that have trained the most players aligned to the European Big-5 over the last two decades. The leading duo is made up of Real Madrid (166 players) and FC Barcelona (156), through which players such as Casillas, Juan Mata or Dani Carvajal have passed on one side, against Messi, Piqué, Xavi or Iniesta on the other. The podium of the biggest producers of professional players is completed by Paris Saint-Germain (111), closely followed by its French rival Olympique Lyonnais, which notably produced the Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema (103). Manchester United (103), Stade Rennais and Atalanta (94) come next in a ranking that places five Spanish teams in the Top 10. It should also be noted that among the teams outside the Big-5, the three having trained the most players who have played there since the 2005/06 season are Ajax Amsterdam (73 players), Sporting CP (64) and River Plate (51).
