It's an unusual exchange between two of the greatest coaches of the 21st century. Between the Bundesliga and the Premier League, Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp have faced off thirty times over the past twelve years. While the German has taken a step back from the dugout to become Red Bull's director of football, the Catalan is breathing new life into Manchester City after a disappointing season. To do this, he has chosen to change his coaching staff: out goes Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens, and in comes Pepijn Lijnders and James French, two former assistants of... Klopp at the Reds. But before suggesting to the short-lived RB Salzburg coach and the set piece specialists to join him, the former Barça manager took the time to call his former rival to get his approval. In return, the former Borussia Dortmund coach strongly advised him to work with his former Dutch right-hand man. It remains to be seen whether the latter will be able to take advantage of Guardiola's springboard to reclaim his career as number 1, like Enzo Maresca, Mikel Arteta, and Carlos Cuesta, all of whom have served on the staff of the three-time Champions League winner.
