With the end of the transfer window, the CIES has looked at the commercial balance sheets of clubs over the two transfer windows of the 2024/2025 season. Over this period, only one team has a negative balance sheet of more than €250 million: Brighton & Hove Albion. The English club, coached by Fabian Hurzeler (read his profile), now well established in the Premier League, recorded a deficit of €197 million last summer and €56 million this winter, by investing in many young players with high potential. The promoted Ipswich Town (-€176 million) and the Saudis of Al-Nassr (-€175 million) complete the world podium of teams with the most negative balance sheets. In the other Big-5 leagues, the biggest deficits were recorded for Atlético Madrid (-€116m) in Spain, AS Roma (-€111m) in Italy, Paris St-Germain (-€87m) in France and Bayern Munich (-€63m) in Germany. In terms of spending, Brighton & Hove Albion (€317m) is ahead of Chelsea (€310m) and Manchester City (€278m). In terms of revenue, two English clubs are on the podium for positive net spending results: Leeds United (+€132m) and Burnley FC (+€101m) with the French side RC Lens (+€106m). The Portuguese clubs Benfica Lisbon (+€92m) and FC Porto (+€82m) are at the foot of the podium.
