"People often think that our role is simply to film or edit match footage," says Oussama Chergui, the video analyst for the Libyan club Al Akhdar. However, the Algerian, who previously played for Mouloudia Club d'Alger, points out that his role on a coaching staff is much broader: "It requires a thorough understanding of football. Software proficiency can be learned, but it's the game analysis that makes the difference throughout the week because it's based on our identification of the opponent's strengths and weaknesses that we plan training sessions." During each session, Oussama then prepares the exercises on his tablet with the players' names, in order to follow their progress live and collect the sequences to be corrected: “Controls, positioning, passes, timings… we observe every detail to evaluate their work, based on the coach's objectives so that he can refine his choices. The role of a video analyst is essential during training.”
