What is the real impact on teenagers using screens before bed? According to a study shared by Franck Le Gall, doctor for the French national team since 2012, negative effects are felt when they are used after 9 p.m. A "decrease in attention and motor skills the next day" and consequently in the performance of young people has been observed. In a video, the LOSC doctor from 2004 to 2016 advocates a radical solution to ensure aspiring footballers get enough sleep: "Remove screens after 9 p.m.! It's not the easiest thing to implement, but it's the solution," assures the specialist. The mental health organizations Rethink and Mind also encourages both teens and adults to replace cell phones, tablets, and televisions with relaxing activities such as reading, warm baths, and breathing exercises. They also recommend to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and heavy meals before bedtime. Always a good reminder.
