Ramadan began a few days ago and fasting will force some athletes to change their lifestyle. But with what impact? Two studies (Delang and AL) conducted in 2022 noted a change in athletic performance among the players concerned. Alexandre Dellal, former physical trainer for OGC Nice and Olympique Lyon, shares his experience on the subject: "Ramadan is not a complicated period but requires adaptation for the athlete as well as for the staff, who must know which players are fasting in order to begin personalized monitoring from a nutritional point of view - for example, drinking 1.5 liters of water before dawn - but also in terms of injury prevention or sleep quality to ensure that recovery is sufficient." Failing that, naps can be an ideal complement to manage a player's daily needs.
