It’s not just about care or good nutrition to prevent injuries, communication is key! A study published by BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine, in which fourteen elite UEFA clubs were analysed, highlighted that better communication between medical and performance staff, as well as direct involvement in the management of players’ workload, reduces injury rates. Gustavo Vilela da Silveira, Senior Doctor at Al Fateh (D1 Saudi Arabia), who recently shared this study, has strengthened communication between medical and performance teams by keeping an eye on injury drivers: “Thanks to better alignment on load control, recovery strategies and return-to-play protocols, we have observed a reduction in muscle injuries and better availability of players for training and matches.”
