Assistant to Rogerio Ceni since 2017, Charles Hembert takes advantage of the short Brazilian off-season every year to travel around Europe in search of new ideas. "In Brazil, a season is 80 matches so it's very demanding and it only leaves us a month to take a break... Even if it's not always easy to organize, it's important for my progression to take advantage of this period to get closer to Europe, attend training sessions, discover new tactics." Having just returned to Salvador to prepare for the resumption of his club EC Bahia, the Frenchman looked back on his trip which took him to Manchester City, Monaco, Brighton, Getafe, Bournemouth, Lyon, Léganès, Lille and Palermo, and made the observation: "I was struck by the physical intensity, the pace and the level of demand during training. In Brazil, this is less the case, due to the number of matches, the heat and the travel… even if the best team last season, Botafogo, were also the fittest". A global trend for the technician, Brazilian champion with Flamengo in 2020: "Football is continually moving towards an increasingly physical game, of which the Premier League is the standard-bearer".
