220,000 new players and 15,000 additional teams? This is the goal of the English Soccer Federation, which is launching a new strategy to “transform the landscape” of soccer in the UK. To achieve this, the FA plans to build 300 synthetic fields to meet the demand of local authorities, 96% of whom believe they don’t have enough fields. Investments will also be made in natural grass fields, two-thirds of which are considered to be of poor quality, “to reach our goal of 12,000,” said Mark Bullingham. The FA’s Chief Executive Officer also admitted another goal for these facilities: to increase the percentage of women’s teams, which currently make up 12% of English teams.
