Since 2017, Stéphane Héros, the "cognitive foundations" researcher at the University of Clermont has been supporting Clermont Foot 63 (Ligue 2), where he has served as assistant manager or performance manager. Along with former students, the STAPS doctor has also been working for three years on a study on "typical phase sequences" and analysing thousands of game phases to identify recurring patterns. "Based on video sequencing and an analysis grid (in relation to space, temporality, game options and players' attitudes), we go back to the phases before and after a loss of the ball, to diagnose the problems. For example, on a sequence of typical phases in 4 or 5 phases, to be able to diagnose if they appear on the first, second, or even third transition... Concretely, this helps me in the analysis of performance on defensive transitions (the subject of his thesis)". The challenge of this innovative analysis methodology is to then be able to "reproduce as closely as possible the most ecological conditions, by creating adapted training situations." And from these results, create the "sessions of tomorrow"?
