The most decorated club on the African continent, Al Ahly, has finally established its women’s team in the "Egyptian Premier League Championship." Since August, Max Altenhoven has taken on the role of performance manager for the iconic Egyptian club. For Altenhoven, who has worked with Téfécé and Fénix Toulouse handball, this project is "rewarding." “When I arrived, we didn’t yet have a medical staff or recruited players, and the campus where we train wasn’t finished. It was a massive project, but it was very exciting to set up our processes,” shared the assistant to French coach Dimitri Lipoff. “Starting from scratch allowed us to think about the identity we wanted for our team: how do we stand out from other clubs? What’s our DNA? How do we connect with the men’s team?” With around 15 staff members and high-level facilities, Al Ahly aims to quickly establish itself in African football, which is dominated by Egyptian, Moroccan, and Nigerian clubs. Altenhoven, meanwhile, is discovering "the incredible pool of African talent and enjoying the chance to apply his methods to women’s soccer.
