In its latest weekly newsletter, the CIES Football Observatory highlights the growing instability of the coaching position with a study showing that worldwide, on average, three-quarters of professional coaches have been in post for less than a year (75.3%). Among the European "Big 5" countries, Serie A has the highest rate of coaches in post for less than a year, with 95%. Only Simone Inzaghi, who has been at the helm of Inter Milan for four years, stands out as an exception. German clubs are the most patient of the five leagues with their coaches: in the Bundesliga, 44% have been in post for less than a year. It is also the country with the longest average tenure of a coach at the helm of a club, at 797 days! La Liga (55%) and the Premier League (50%) follow. It's worth noting that in Spain, 25% of coaches have been in charge of their teams for more than three years, with the record going to the unshakeable Diego Simeone and his 13 seasons at Atlético Madrid. In France, the situation is more nuanced: in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, 61% of coaches have been in charge for less than a year and 22% for between one and two years. In Ligue 1, no manager has spent more than two and a half years in the role.
