The South African rugby team organises ‘alignment days’ several times a year / ©IconSport

World champion for the fourth time in its history in 2023, South Africa has dominated world rugby for several years. While the physical impact and iron defense of the Springboks are often highlighted, their work on mental preparation must also be considered. And in particular the organization of "alignment days" several times a year! The principle? "These are whole days of meetings devoted to discussions between staff and players on topics of strategy, emotion management or work on their "why" (why they defend the colors of countries, what they represent for their flag, etc.)", explains Arthur Cestaro, French former professional player and mental trainer in rugby. "This space allows them to identify their strengths, create meaning and solve problems before they arise", analyzes the specialist. "This is proof that conversations are not a waste of time. On the contrary, they strengthen individual commitment through the strength of the collective". Advice heard by Fabien Galthié and the staff of the French rugby team who have also put in place collective mental preparation strategies.
